Worked example: 30m² single drive
A 6m × 5m drive at 10cm deep needs 30 × 10 × 10 = 3,000 litres — about 4 bulk bags. Laid over grids at 4cm instead, that's 1,200 litres — under 2 bags, plus the grid panels. The calculator prices both build-ups so you can compare properly.
10cm of loose gravel over a compacted MOT type 1 sub-base, or 3–4cm over stabilising grids. Any shallower and the sub-base shows through; deeper and tyres churn it.
