Worked example: a 4 × 6m family lawn
A 24m² back lawn in the Family 30mm grade needs 26.4m² once the 10% cutting allowance is added, rounded up to 27m² of cut grass — that's about £431 at £15.95/m². The same area in Budget 20mm comes to roughly £242, and in Premium 40mm about £647. Add a roll of joining tape if the plot is wider than one 4m roll.
Mainly pile height and density. Budget 20mm short pile is neat and hard-wearing — good for balconies, play corners and putting-green looks. Family 30mm is the all-round favourite: soft underfoot, child and pet friendly. Premium 40mm deep pile with multi-tone blades looks closest to a real lawn.
